Cowboy Songs is a 70-minute recital program of classical music for voice and piano inspired by cowboy culture in the American West. It features works by Aaron Copland, Libby Larsen, Texas-based composer Alex Molina Shawver, and arrangements of Mexican ranchera music. Shawver's song cycle, Songs from the End of the Frontier brings together folk tradition, classical performance, and audience participation. Listeners are welcome to sing along to familiar tunes and will be assigned various instruments before the performance to play from their seats. This performance is suitable for listeners of all ages, including students of classical music as well as families and children.
